Author Advent 1 : Kate Thompson

"The best book I have read this year is The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith by Thomas Keneally. It contains some of the most vibrant and economical writing I have come across, shot through with insight and poetry, entirely original in its style and perspective. It is both enormously moving and completely unsentimental. A masterpiece. Hard to believe, but it doesn't appear to be in print in the UK."

Each day until December 24th an author featured at TVFH over the last few years tells us of their favourite read of 2009 in our Author Advent. You'll have to provide your own chocolates and there's no little door to open, but you could try placing your hand over your eyes and then removing it again. Authors include the likes of Julian Barnes, Iain Banks, Paul Torday, Patrick Gale and Marina Lewycka. And for those of you who like lists, we'll list them all on December 29th.

If it's not in print in UK does that man the author is US / Australian/ Other native? Looks an intriguing cover.

I love the author advent - can't wait to see inside all the other doors this month.
