Monday Editorial : May 19

Yesterday saw the very first e-mailing of the weekly version of the magazine. If you still haven't registered then sign up in the form in the right hand side-bar.

Through my letter-box today from Legend Press : Fire Horses by Mark Piggott - looking forward to reading it and doing an interview with Mark for the magazine.

And he's been out again. The Lone Ranger will bring us his account of week 2 in Hi Ho Books Away! Find out how he got on with A Thousand Splendid Suns.

Finally for this week : A NEW FEATURE ON THE MAGAZINE

Yep - can't stand still here : One of the things we want to encourage is a sense of community for authors and readers, so to help that along as well as commenting on the articles you can now send letters to the editor.

Hit the "Letters to the Editor" tab at the top of the page for details!

It's your chance to have your say, raise topics and generate your own discussions in the magazine.

Hi Mike (M1,
Your magazine is success, from my humble standpoint.

"One of the things we want to encourage is a sense of community for authors and readers, so to help that along as well as commenting on the articles you can now send letters to the editor."

One of the things you've managed to do so well, with both of your blogs and with Go! Smell the Flowers! is build actual communities. Your tranistion from blog to magazine has been seamless, and so, you have not lost the charm which invited so many to your corner of the internet to read your work. I am a fan, and will remain so, my friend. Keep growing, and keep swinging for the fences. -Mike (M2)

Heh Mike - thanks for your encouragment.

There are so many sites out there that are just interested in the hits into them - but I'm interested in community.

Writing can be a lonely experience and I think we have a great way of sites like mine and yours of helping writers feel less isolated.

Hiya and welcome to the magazine - what kind of writing do you do?

Hi Mike,

I wrote for all the years of our daughter's childhood--any time I could snatch an hour.

I have four novels and quite a few short stories. Of the novels, the two middle-grade manuscripts are to me, insignificant. They were fun to write and a challenge, as my first attempts. But they're "lightweight." Another two of my novels are mainstream YA novels, and contain a lot of "large" themes. They read as action-adventure stories with soft sci fi elements, but have well-developed feminist and Gaia/earth stewardship themes.

My short stories also have soft, sociological, sci fi themes.

I've had good feedback and some personal letters from major publishers, but have since tabled the writing for my art.

Thanks for asking, Mike! Good luck with your writing endeavors!

Wow, thanks for sharing that. I to wrote my novel whilst looking after the kids as a "home" dad.

And I love your art: Check it out here folks.
